Our Commitment

The Unity School District is focused on creating a successful and sustainable school system for the Town of Unity and its residents. We seek to maintain an appropriate balance between high educational standards, strong expectations, quality programming, affordability, and transparency to the community.

As the District establishes independent operations following many years of service through SAU 6, our immediate priority is to build the systems, practices, and organizational capacity necessary for long-term success. During the 2026–2027 school year, the District will focus on major goals designed to establish a strong foundation for effective District operations while continuing to provide a high-quality education for every student.

Goal 1

Effective & Sustainable District Operations

Establish the infrastructure, financial systems, student services, and school operations necessary for a compliant, transparent, and sustainable district.

Goal 2

Special Education Compliance & Student Services

Complete required initial evaluations and reevaluations within applicable timelines while strengthening systems that support individual student needs.

Financial Accuracy, Transparency & Accountability

Establish reliable financial practices that produce accurate, consistent, transparent, and understandable reporting.

Goal 1 — Establish Effective and Sustainable District Operations

By June 30, 2027, the Unity School District will successfully establish the core systems and functions necessary for effective, compliant, transparent, and sustainable District operations.

District Infrastructure

Establish administrative systems, policies, procedures, records, technology, contracts, personnel processes, and operational infrastructure.

Financial Operations

Implement accurate, transparent, and effective budgeting, accounting, purchasing, payroll, reporting, internal-control, and financial-management practices.

Student Services

Establish coordinated systems that respond to academic, behavioral, social-emotional, health, and special education needs.

School Operations

Maintain effective day-to-day operations while strengthening instructional quality, student achievement, school safety, and the educational experience.

Evidence of Success: District transition/compliance checklist; required policies and procedures; functioning financial and administrative systems; documented internal controls; student-service systems; required state and federal reporting; and evidence that school operations continued without significant disruption.

Goal 2 — Special Education Compliance and Student Services

By June 30, 2027, the Unity School District will complete 100% of required initial special education evaluations and reevaluations within applicable timelines, with particular attention to compliance with Indicator 11, as measured through District records and state compliance monitoring.

We will strengthen systems for referral, evaluation, eligibility determination, reevaluation, documentation, case management, and procedural compliance.

The objective is broader than compliance alone. We will use improved special education processes to ensure students are identified appropriately, evaluated in a timely manner, and provided services responsive to their individual educational needs.

Evidence of Success: 100% timely initial evaluations; timely reevaluations; accurate records; regular internal compliance reviews; correction of identified deficiencies; and state monitoring results demonstrating required compliance.

Goal 3 — Financial Accuracy, Transparency, and Accountability

By June 30, 2027, the Unity School District will establish and implement a comprehensive process for reviewing financial data to ensure accuracy, consistency, transparency, and reliability in District financial reporting.

We will review financial records and reporting practices, reconcile accounts, establish appropriate internal controls, standardize financial procedures, and provide the School Board and community with understandable and timely financial information.

Particular attention will be given to establishing reliable beginning balances and financial records as the District transitions from its previous operational structure.

Evidence of Success: Regular account reconciliation; consistent budget-to-actual reporting; documented procedures and internal controls; accurate payroll and accounts payable; timely state and federal reporting; documented review of revenues and expenditures; and successful completion of the annual financial audit with identified findings addressed through corrective action when necessary.
